On Tuesday, September 17, Physics is Phun made its debut in the Assisted Living dining room. When we speak of a “solid” start, we are speaking of ice in a test tube! As part of the “phun” we made home-made ice cream as we watched the water freeze. After some tense moments, the water in our test tubes did finally freeze in the ice-salt mixture. It seemed like some of our participants were wary of the outcome of the experiment but eventually we did get ice to form. Of course the highlight of this experiment was consuming the home-made ice cream.
Next month we will make an artificial volcano and have it erupt (we hope in somewhat of a controlled manner). The “eruption” will occur from the release of carbon dioxide resulting from the reaction of baking soda and vinegar. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, at 3:00 p.m. in the Assisted Living dining room. Wish us luck!
